June 10, 2013 Colorado Winter Wheat Crop Condition Report

In the Colorado Crop Progress Report released Monday, June 10, USDA NASS rated 35 percent of Colorado winter wheat very poor, 22 percent poor, 31 percent fair, 11 percent good, and one percent excellent. Last year at this time, seven percent was considered very poor, 21 percent poor, 37 percent fair, 30 percent good, and five percent excellent.

Thirty-three percent of Colorado topsoil was very short on moisture, the same as this time last year. Forty percent of Colorado subsoil was very short on moisture, compare with 29 percent last year.

In the national crop condition update, for the 18 major winter wheat-producing states, USDA NASS rated 23 percent of the crop as very poor, 19 percent poor, 27 percent fair, 26 percent good, and five percent excellent.

Harvest for the 18 main winter wheat producing states was five percent complete, compared to 37 percent last year and 16 percent five-year average. Harvest is mainly taking place in California and Texas.
