March 23, 2015: U.S. and Colorado Crop Condition Report

CROP PROGRESS AND CONDITION

WEEK ENDING MARCH 22, 2015

AGRICULTURAL SUMMARY: Warm temperatures accelerated development of winter wheat while dry conditions were experienced throughout much of Colorado, leading to some concern of moisture stress.  Precipitation occurred in localized fashion primarily within the eastern and southeastern districts, where topsoil moisture supply has been lacking.  Indications are that field activity has been stalled within the San Luis Valley due to wet conditions.  As of March 23, mountain snowpack statewide was 80 percent of average. The Southwest and San Luis Valley were 69 and 77 percent of average, respectively. Stored feed supplies were rated 2 percent very short, 4 percent short, 79 percent adequate, and 15 percent surplus.  Sheep death loss was 1 percent heavy, 60 percent average and 39 percent light.  Cattle death loss was 1 percent heavy, 84 percent average, and 15 percent light.
