April 6, 2015: U.S. and Colorado Crop Condition Report

CROP PROGRESS AND CONDITION
WEEK ENDING APRIL 5, 2015
AGRICULTURAL SUMMARY: As warm, dry conditions persisted, opportunities for spring tillage and planting were maintained. Dry pockets in pastures and cropland became more pronounced where no replenishing moisture events occurred, particularly in the San Luis Valley. The northeastern district was the exception, which received rain and snow
showers. Conditions were again ideal for calving and lambing. As of April 6, mountain snowpack statewide was 67 percent of average. The Southwest and San Luis Valley were 52 and 54 percent of average, respectively. Stored feed supplies were rated 2 percent very short, 5 percent short, 80 percent adequate, and 13 percent surplus. Sheep death loss was 64 percent average and 36 percent light. Cattle death loss was 1 percent heavy, 83 percent average, and 16 percent light.
