June 8, 2015: U.S. and Colorado Crop Condition Report

CROP PROGRESS AND CONDITION WEEK ENDING JUNE 7, 2015

AGRICULTURAL SUMMARY: Weather conditions shifted slightly last week, yielding warmer temperatures and sustained isolated moisture. This allowed fieldwork to resume at a level closer to its seasonal pace while an abundance of heat units spurred development
of most crops. In some localities, fields have become submerged due to heavy precipitation, preventing producers from continuing planting activities. This has been a particular concern with the corn crop. Damage to wheat from stripe rust was still being assessed and treated in eastern Colorado. Reporters in the San Luis Valley indicated producers were make preparations for surface irrigation as runoff from mountain snowmelt has gained in volume. Stored feed supplies were rated 2 percent very short, 6 percent short, 83 percent adequate, and 9 percent surplus. Sheep death loss was 63 percent average and 37 percent light. Cattle death loss was 1 percent heavy,
76 percent average, and 23 percent light.
