Katharine Lotspeich, Director of Communications and External Affairs

KNL Headshot

Prior to joining the Colorado Wheat team in May of 2016, Katharine’s relationship to wheat was as feed for her family’s more than 3,000 dairy cows.  She grew up in Delta, Utah, and spent her days chasing cows, grooming corrals, and corn surfing (a farm-kid ingenuity-invented sport that Katharine is certain is close to becoming an Olympic event.) She was active in both 4-H and FFA, where her main projects were developing and showing a high caliber show string of registered Holstein cows.  Her herd, Desert Wind Cattle, are currently housed with her parents’ commercial herd, but still receive the royal treatment of daily head scratches.

Katharine graduated from Utah State University in 2015, with a degree in Dairy Science and Agricultural Leadership, and a minor in Political Science.  She and her husband Jimmy, an FFA advisor at Weld Central High School, headed east to Colorado to see what Rocky Mountain agriculture offered to two farm kids looking for adventure.  Katharine joins Colorado Wheat with a focus on farmers, agricultural policy, and ensuring that agriculture’s goals and values are communicated loud and clear.  She and Jimmy live on 5 acres in Kersey…just enough room for a couple of show heifers.
