Last week in Colorado: Last year at this time: Summary for July 6 for winter wheat in the U.S. Last year at this time: UPDATED U.S. estimate: Production is forecast at 1.48 billion bushels, up 2 percent from the May 1 forecast but 3 percent below 2009. Based on June 1 conditions, the United States yield is forecast at 46.6 bushels per acre, up 0.7 bushel from last month and 2.4 bushels more than last year. Expected area for harvest as grain or seed totals 31.8 million acres, unchanged from May 1. USDA increased our yield estimate from 38 to 39 bushels per acre so that Colorado winter wheat production is now estimated at 89,700,000 bushels compared to the May estimate of 87,400,000. The new estimate is based on 2,300,000 acres being harvested with an average yield of 39 bushels per acre for total production of 89,700,000 bushels.
