May 29, 2012 Colorado Winter Wheat Crop Condition

In the May 29, 2012 Crop Progress Report, Colorado NASS estimated that 42 percent of the 2012 Colorado winter wheat crop was in good to excellent condition, a five percent decline from last week. Twenty-one percent of the winter wheat crop was in poor or very poor condition. Last year at this time, 28 percent of the crop was in good to excellent condition, with 37 percent very poor or poor.

Winter wheat in Colorado was 99 percent headed, compared to 51 percent on average; and twenty-six percent turning color, compared to 0 percent on average.

USDA NASS reported crop condition for the 18 winter wheat states as 17 percent very poor to poor, 54 percent good to excellent.  Harvest is nine percent complete, compared to a five-year average of one percent.
