June 11, 2012 Colorado Winter Wheat Crop Condition Report

In the June 11, 2012 Crop Progress Report, Colorado NASS estimated that 34 percent of the 2012 Colorado winter wheat crop was in good to excellent condition, a five percent decline from last week. Twenty-eight percent of the winter wheat crop was in poor or very poor condition. Last year at this time, 37 percent of the crop was in good to excellent condition, with 39 percent very poor or poor.

Winter wheat in Colorado was 99 percent headed, compared to 93 percent on average; and 82 percent turning color, compared to 19 percent on average. The crop was seven percent ripe. From observations around the state on Wheat Field Days, the crop has advanced rapidly since this report, and conditions will be much further along in next Monday’s report.

USDA NASS reported crop condition for the 18 winter wheat states as 17 percent very poor to poor, 53 percent good to excellent.  Harvest is 35 percent complete, compared to a five-year average of nine percent.

Colorado is listed as zero percent harvested, a figure which will certainly change next week, as staff observed combines in action from Walsh to the Haxtun area this week.
