May 6, 2013, Colorado Winter Wheat Crop Condition

In the Colorado Crop Progress Report released Monday, May 6, USDA NASS rated 27 percent of Colorado winter wheat very poor, 29 percent poor, 31 percent fair, 12 percent good, and one percent excellent. Last year at this time, two percent was considered very poor, 10 percent poor, 34 percent fair, 46 percent good, and eight percent excellent.

Twenty-three percent of Colorado topsoil was very short on moisture, compared to 13 percent at this time last year. Thirty-nine percent of Colorado subsoil was very short on moisture, compare with 12 percent last year.

In the national crop condition update, for the 18 major winter wheat-producing states, USDA NASS rated 19 percent of the crop as very poor, 20 percent poor, 29 percent fair, 27 percent good, and five percent excellent.
