County Meetings and Elections January 6-9

Colorado wheat farmers are invited to attend and participate in the annual county business meetings and elections jointly sponsored by the Colorado Wheat Administrative Committee (CWAC) and the Colorado Association of Wheat Growers (CAWG).  The business meetings and elections will be held January 6 – 9 at eight different locations. Please see schedule below for the meeting for your county.

CAWG President Mark Linnebur strongly encourages all growers to attend.

“County elections are your chance to speak out or even become involved in the organization,” Linnebur said, “This is a very important year for CWAC because of the upcoming vote on re-approval of the two-cent assessment in March. CAWG will discuss legislative issues from last year that affect wheat farmers as well as issues we anticipate in the upcoming legislative session. Most importantly, CAWG is helping the voice of rural Colorado be heard at the capitol in Denver.”

County-level representatives for both CWAC and CAWG will be elected at these meetings. If you are interested in serving on either board, attend the meeting, or please contact your current representative for more information. County and district representatives are listed at www.coloradowheat.org.

CWAC President Steve Beedy will discuss how funding from the producer-approved assessment is being invested in education, research and promotion programs, and progress that has been made in wheat research programs and variety development that has been made since the two-cent assessment was passed in 2007.

CWAC/CAWG Executive Director Darrell Hanavan will review the wheat marketing situation.

Linnebur will present an update on state and national legislative activities, including state budget issues and national issues such as the Farm Bill.

CWAC and CAWG are two distinctly separate organizations with different, but complimentary purposes. CWAC is the producer-elected Board of Control for the Colorado Wheat Marketing Order whose purpose is to decide how assessment funds are to be spent for research, promotion and education activities. CAWG is a voluntary membership association that lobbies on behalf of wheat growers at the state and national levels of government and provides special programs and benefits to dues-paying members.
