2015 Wheat Quality Tour

Colorado Wheat Administrative Committee (CWAC) Field Representative Joe Westhoff participated in the Colorado portion of the Wheat Quality Council 2015 Hard Winter Wheat Tour on May 5 and 6.

The 2015 Colorado winter wheat crop was estimated at 89.3 million bushels based on 2.35 million acres being harvested (2. 5 million acres are planted) with an average yield of 38 bushels per acre.  Last year the Colorado winter wheat crop was 89.3 million bushels based on 2.35 million acres being harvested (2.75 million were planted) with an average yield of 38 bushels per acre.  The 10-year average for production is 68.7 million bushels based on 2.1 million acres being harvested (2.4 million acres were planted) with an average yield of 32.6 bushels per acre.

A total of 24 wheat fields in Adams, Arapahoe, Kit Carson, Kiowa, Cheyenne, Yuma, Logan, Weld and Phillips were scouted and estimated for yield using a formula provided by the Kansas Agricultural Statistics Service.
