Grass sawfly
We have not observed any grass sawfly larvae in our field surveys. This suggests that the larvae have matured and have dropped to the soil. They will form pupae in the soil in which they will remain until the following spring. We will monitor these areas for adult emergence next spring.
Wheat Stem Sawfly State-Wide Survey
Now that the adult sawflies have finished their emergence cycle, we will soon start our state-wide sawfly infestation survey. This is a large project that we strive to make as comprehensive as possible. Every year, we survey over 100 sites and dissect 100 stems per site in 15 wheat-producing counties in Eastern Colorado. We will also collect from several locations in Western Kansas, to try to detect sawfly movement across the state line. See Figure 1 for our most recent map.
